Michael Janssen
In 1995 Michael Janssen opened his gallery in Cologne, where he operated for twelve years and held more than eighty exhibitions. Between 2002 and 2006, Michael Janssen worked in collaboration with the New York gallery Leo Koenig in Los Angeles under the name "The Happy Lion" in Chinatown/downtown LA.
The gallery also returned to presenting works by mid-career Los Angeles artists, with solo exhibitions by Meg Cranston, Thaddeus Strode, Monique van Genderen and Erik Parker. Christoph Steinmeyer and Gert & Uwe Tobias had their first solo exhibitions in Los Angeles.
In 2007 the gallery moved to Berlin and closed the Cologne space in 2008. The gallery hosted a contemporary programme dominated by European, American and Southeast Asian artists. The programme focuses on painting, sculpture and installation by both established and young artists.
Christian Berst Art Brut
Since 2005, the christian berst art brut gallery has been internationally recognised as a reference in its field, putting its passion at the service of out-of-the-ordinary creators, whether "classics" already established by museums and collections or contemporary discoveries promised to be recognised by the art world.
The gallery is distinguished as much by its exhibitions, its participation in international art fairs as by: its publications, its more than 70 bilingual catalogues to date or its conferences, screenings and other cultural events that tend to bring an ever wider public closer to the ins and outs of Art Brut.
Several artists represented by the gallery have recently become part of prestigious public collections (MNAM Pompidou, MoMA, Metropolitan Art Museum, ...) and some fifteen of them were included in the 2013 Venice Biennale selection, while Luboš Plný and Dan Miller, championed by the gallery for 10 years, were selected for the 2017 Venice Biennale.
