Meet the Dutch artist Nanon Morsink

Mar 30, 2023

"My truth is different from yours. However, we both see the truth.
My presence is different from yours. However, we are both present."

Nanon Morsink is an artist of Dutch origin who, for the last six years, has been living and working in the south of Spain, in Malaga. In her artistic quest she involves various narratives, thus exploring various themes of production.

However, the most evident characteristic of all his works is the constant dialogue between the spectator and the represented. If the latter is never represented in a way that is completely visible, Nanon, at the same time, does not ask the viewer to participate directly. The possible conversation between the two is conducted in a safe and secret ideological space by both, and is governed by their own interpretations.

Sometimes the works themselves require an imaginative effort on the part of the viewer. The covered faces without visible facial features, or the intermediate layers painted with a pattern that the artist superimposes on the subjects of the works, need the fantasy of the public to complete their forms and reach a certain organicity.

This characteristic of duality is a recurring element in her art and the women presented in her paintings, for example, are always strong yet vulnerable characters. On many occasions, Nanon is herself the covert protagonist in her narratives.

Nanon uses different materials for the production of his pieces, both traditional and non-traditional. In fact, among his best known works are those made with recycled materials, such as ropes and plastics from Andalusian nurseries, as well as intervened objects and fabrics, which contribute to take them to the dimension of fetishes.

The Isolina Arbulu Gallery of Marbella dedicates to him the individual exhibition "Corazón wild with a rare touch", during which paintings and sculptures made with recycled materials are exhibited, together with canvases intervened with ropes.
