Rita Ponce de León - Desquicio (Desquicio)
Technique: ink and colored pencil on paper
Artist Biography: Rita Ponce de León (Lima, Peru, 1982) recently graduated from training in the system of psycho-corporal techniques proposed by the Argentinean organization Río Abierto. Ponce de León understands her work as a way of engaging in situations that, through a focus on learning and participation, lead to the recognition of a substantially bond-centric world, where even ephemeral encounters can be meaningful. To this end, the intuitive approaches that the body provides pave the way. The artist stays close to practices such as butoh dance and Aikido and often participates in workshops that promote that the movement of the body gives rise to a certain type of wisdom and collective knowledge. In this way she decanted this diversity of experiences in drawings that she shares as visual essays. Her work has been exhibited at the Aichi Triennial in Nagoya, Japan (2022); at the 32nd Biennial of São Paulo, Brazil (2016); in the native village of San Simón Ticumac, Mexico (2021); at the Kunsthalle Basel, Switzerland (2014); at proyectoamil, Lima, Peru (2017); at the gallery 80M2 Livia Benavides, Lima, Peru; at the Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros; Mexico (2013), among others. Her images have been published in Vitamin D2: new perspectives in drawing (2013). She also collaborates recurrently with Joelle Gruenberg, Yaxkin Melchy, Tania Solomonoff and Esthel Vogrig. His work is in the collections of Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary - TBA21, Spain; Museo de Arte de Lima, Peru; and the collection of J.P. Morgan Private Bank.
