Description
Álvaro Soler Arpa - Nature altered by design V

Technique: Boar skull, hand-welded swarovski stones and screws.

Artist Biography: In his sculptural work, Alvaro Soler-Arpa (Girona, 1974) combines his knowledge of anatomy and drawing with his interest in organic forms. Throughout his artistic discourse there is an evident link with nature and a concern for the effect of man's hand on the environment. His almost futuristic creatures bear witness to the evolution of nature in response to the toxicity of our society-driven consumption. Alvaro Soler-Arpa graduated in Drawing, at the School of Arts and Crafts in Olot, and later in Illustration at the Llotja School in Barcelona. He then pursued a career in advertising and film that included drawing story boards for directors such as Woody Allen (Vicky Cristina Barcelona, ??2008), Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu (Beautiful, 2010) and J. A. Bayona (The Impossible, 2011). In 2005, he began to focus his creativity in the visual arts, mainly in the creation of sculptures and installations. In 2014, Soler-Arpa was invited to become an artistic ambassador for Plastic Pollution Coalition (PPC), a global non-profit organization whose mission is to end global dependence on single-use plastic. In 2021 he was chosen by the Goteborgs Konst hall (Göteborg Museum of Art, Sweden), in its youth education project Snacka om Konst (We talk about art) as a global reference in the field of current environmental art. He has also participated in editorial publications such as "Plastic Ocean, Art and Science responses" by Ingeborg Reichle, University of Applied Arts Vienna in 2020 or GRANTA in Spanish, "AGUA" by Galaxia Gutenberg in 2016. In 2015 he was elected. member of the Royal British Society of Sculptors. Soler-Arpa is currently working with the Miguel Marcos Gallery in Barcelona. Soler-Arpa is an international exponent of environmentalist art. In a world scenario characterized by an omnipresent climate crisis, his work takes force. This linkage to the environmentalist message and activism does not sacrifice a rich and aesthetically well elaborated creative and executive process.
