Description
Antonio López - Landscapes

Artist Biography: Spanish realism is written with its own name, that of Antonio López (1936), one of the most important contemporary artists in the history of our art. His production includes elements of different artistic currents, such as Cubism or Surrealism. However, from the 1960s onwards he left behind the oneiric to develop a more objective approach. His works are an autobiography that range from the pictorial to the sculptural.

Antonio López paints his life in this exclusive edition of ARTIKA: the author shows the most relevant scenes, works and people of his career and reveals his inner self through his way of capturing the outside world. He evokes thoughts, experiences and emotions, sharing his story and his inspiration through the art of those who were his greatest influences. In this way, Paisajes becomes his most personal artist's book and, at the same time, his most intimate portrait. Antonio López has been involved in all phases of the project: in addition to signing the 2,998 copies, he himself handcrafted his own model of this edition. He chose the images from his paintings and drawings and hand-wrote his memories and reflections, in addition to providing images from his personal archive. The result is a living work, structured as a personal diary, which covers his entire creative and life trajectory. Paisajes covers a century of art and life: it begins in 1917, with the work of his uncle, Antonio López Torres, and later, it is his wife, María Moreno, also a painter, who takes center stage. In chronological order, Lopez shows from his formative years and first paintings, through some of the highlights of his artistic creation, to the urban scenes that have made him famous and the paintings he is still working on. His writings are the key to access his private world, and in the pages of this work we have the privilege of hearing the painter in the first person. No edition, until now, had achieved this perfect union between the work and the voice of the artist. The front cover of the Art Book, printed on canvas, shows the work Gran Vía, August 1, 7:30 am, 2009-2015. The back cover is a detail of the same painting. The set includes Rosas (Roses), an exclusive giclée print in numbered edition, created especially for this edition. It is about flowers that Antonio López painted during his confinement. Paisajes is presented in an exclusively designed display case, which recreates the window from which the artist painted the scene on the cover of the Art Book. A place where López went for years, on the same day, at the same time, to capture the light and the image of his often painted Gran Vía. The design of the case, which contains the name of the work and the artist in relief, offers several options for display, depending on whether you want to enjoy the giclée print, the Art Book or both at the same time.
