Mar Vicente - Exhibit I
Technique: Acrylic on wood
Artist Biography: Mar Vicente is a contemporary artist born in Lugo in 1979, whose work is characterized by experimentation with form and the transformation of the pictorial support. She often works with the square as a starting point, developing it towards the third dimension and adopting unconventional attitudes that affect the perception of volumes and spaces. In her show for MARCO, Mar Vicente presents a series of sculptural objects and two specific interventions that explore optical illusions and color theory to generate new versions of the same space. The changing lighting and the point of observation are also key elements in the experience of the work, which is multiplied and prolonged indefinitely thanks to the active participation of the viewer.Through her work, Mar Vicente invites the viewer to question his or her perception of space and to explore new ways of seeing the world around him or her. Her economy of chromatic and compositional elements, combined with experimentation with form, creates a unique visual language that has earned her recognition within the contemporary art world.Throughout her career, Mar Vicente has exhibited in various galleries and museums in Spain and abroad. Her work has been the subject of several publications and has received numerous recognitions, including the Plastic Arts Award from the Lugo City Council in 2015. With her work, Mar Vicente continues to explore the limits of perception and to question conventional forms of representation in contemporary art.
