Vanitas

"Vanitas vanitatum et omnia vanitas". Vanity of vanities, all is vanity. From this phrase from Ecclesiastes, the National Photography Award winner Juan Manuel Castro Prieto elaborates a work that explores the fleetingness of existence, the fragility of memory and the deterioration of one's own territory. The mortal condition of the human being becomes the central axis of the exhibition and of the three series that compose it: 'Strangers', a symbolic, metaphorical and intimate photography spread over two decades and presented in a striking circular format; 'Ephemeral Landscapes', polyptychs with a layer of glass representing impressive decadent landscapes; and 'Cabinet of curiosities', the series of color still lifes that drinks directly from historical pictorial currents but also from the memories of his childhood, through significant objects photographed in places where no one lives anymore.
