Joan Brossa - Eclipsi
Technique: Host, plastic fried egg
Artist Biography: Joan Brossa (Barcelona, 1919-1998) was a poet, playwright, graphic designer and visual artist who worked intensely throughout his life, leaving an indelible legacy and stamp. His creativity extended to other fields of artistic expression, such as cinema, music, cabaret, magic and circus. One of the founders of the famous group Dau al Set (1948), he became a pioneer of visual poetry in Catalan literature. For Brossa, expression took priority over content, which he enriched and ironically altered through the creation of double meanings, in many cases based on puns. His broad and interdisciplinary vision of culture explains why his works, both literary and visual, are impregnated with a character that makes them defining and differentiating: the use of humor that is satirical, critical and intelligent. Throughout his life he received awards such as the National Visual Arts Award (1992), the National Theater Award (1998) and the UNESCO Picasso Medal. Posthumously, he was awarded Doctor Honoris Causa by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (1999). He was an honorary member of the Associació d'Escriptors en Llengua Catalana. His work is part of museums and public collections such as MACBA Museo d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (Barcelona) or MNCARS Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid).
