Cabrita - These foolish things #3
Technique: Mixed media on paper
Artist Biography: Lisbon, 1956 Lives and works in Lisbon Cabrita's complex work can be characterized by an idiosyncratic philosophical and poetic discourse that encompasses a wide variety of media: painting, photography, drawing and sculptures composed of industrial materials and found objects. His work has received international recognition and has become crucial to the understanding of sculpture since the mid-1980s. Through the use of simple materials that undergo constructive processes, Cabrita recycles almost anonymous reminiscences of primordial gestures and repeated actions of everyday life. Focused on issues related to space and memory, his works obtain a suggestive associative power that can reach a metaphorical dimension, beyond the visual. The complex theoretical and formal diversity of Cabrita's work stems from an anthropological reflection, contrary to the reductionism of sociological discourse. In fact, silences and reflections are the basis of Cabrita's work.
