Yafeng Duan - Untitled no. 63
Technique: Mixed on canvas
Artist Biography: Yafeng Duan is a contemporary artist born in 1973 in Hebei, northern China, in the shadow of the Great Wall. She currently lives in Berlin. For the artist, nature is the mirror of the soul and the source from which she draws spiritual inspiration. Artistic creativity is a means of approaching and exploring reality and transferring it through painting into non-physical spaces. His works testify to his notion of a breath of energy that expands into a great void and, thanks to the constitutive factors of yin and yang, solidifies into all manifestations of existence, only to fade away again.Duan trained at the Beijing Art Academy, where he studied painting and audiovisual media design. After graduating in 1996, he worked at an advertising agency in Beijing and then moved to Germany in 2002 to pursue his artistic career. Since then, she has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions around the world, including China, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands and the United States.Duan's style is a blend of traditional Chinese and Western techniques, such as watercolor and Chinese ink, which are fused with acrylic painting and collage technique. His work is characterized by a great sensitivity to nature and its relationship to spirituality. In his paintings, abstract forms and textures evoke imaginary landscapes that seem to float in a boundless cosmic space.Duan has won several awards for his work, including the New York City Art Prize and the Art Prize of the City of Darmstadt, Germany. His paintings are in numerous public and private collections around the world, including the New York City Art Collection, the Freiburg University Art Collection and the Darmstadt City Art Collection.
