Artist Biography: Simon Callery (UK, 1960) is an artist whose works emphasize materiality and are often made in direct contact with the environment, taking advantage of the surfaces that make up the landscape. The artist has collaborated with the School of Archaeology at Oxford University for many years using the setting of archaeological excavations as part of his creative process. In these paintings the canvases are marked, cut, perforated, soaked in highly saturated tempera paint and stitched, so that they reveal all kinds of holes and cavities. The works that make up this exhibition are the result of work carried out by the artist at two Iron Age archaeological sites, Moel and Gael, Bodfari in North Wales, and Nesscliffe Hill in Shropshire, England. Callery says he works "to bring painting back to what it was and, as a result, gain a better awareness of ourselves." Simon Callery (London, 1960). Lives and works between London and Turin. - Avoid sudden changes in temperature. It is recommended to keep the paintings in areas with an ambient temperature of between 18-20º and 50% relative humidity.
- If the work is to be permanently illuminated, we recommend the use of cold light bulbs. Use a soft feather duster for periodic cleaning of the work. Never use household cleaner.
