Miquel Navarro - Oblique house
Artist Biography: Miquel Navarro (Aielo de Malferit, Valencia, 1945) is a Spanish sculptor and artist characterized by his interest in abstraction and the relationship between sculpture and architecture.Since the 1970s, Navarro has developed a sculptural language of his own, which is based on the creation of organic and abstract forms through materials such as iron, stone and ceramic. His works are voluminous, often large in size, and are characterized by their visual strength and his ability to create architectural spaces through sculpture.Among his most outstanding works are the public sculptures that adorn various Spanish cities, such as the Parque de las Ciencias in Granada, the Palacio de Congresos in Valencia or the Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid. In addition, his work has been exhibited in important museums and galleries around the world, including the Guggenheim in New York, the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona and the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris.Navarro has received numerous awards and recognitions for his artistic career, including the National Prize for Plastic Arts (1995) and the Generalitat Valenciana Prize for the Arts (2006). He has also been awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts (2015) and the Gold Medal of the city of Valencia (2018).
Miquel Navarro is one of the outstanding representatives of what is known as New Spanish Sculpture. He studied at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Carlos de Valencia. He began his career as a painter and since 1972 has devoted himself exclusively to sculpture. Tireless, universal and constantly evolving, Miquel Navarro works out of pure creative passion and assures that he keeps the need to create intact. His idea of beauty is closely linked to his idea of the classics, the foundation and point of reference for the avant-garde movements of the beginning of the century. In 1986 he received the National Prize of Plastic Arts and the National Prize of the Association of Art Critics ARCO 95, among others. He was also declared a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando.
