mentalKLINIK - /IMAGINE, 2405
Artist Biography: The artist duo :mentalKLINIK, originally from Istanbul but based in Brussels, began their collaboration in 1998. Their approach is reactive and flexible in terms of process, production, roles, conception and presentation. This is reflected in his vocabulary, which relates to different references and backgrounds. His work is a combination of contradictions and paradoxes, sometimes dark and humorous, but also autonomous and concerned with the impact of accelerated capitalism and the invisible dynamics that govern our daily lives. The works of :mentalKLINIK are funny and joyful at first glance, but also violent, abrasive and very critical of the world we live in. They evoke themes such as identity, history and memory, and their work ranges from immersive installations to sculptures and objects that defy categorization. The duo has participated in major international exhibitions, including Tomorrow Now at MUDAM, Luxembourg in 2007, PuFF at Art Basel 40 (2009), Art Unlimited in Switzerland, and solo museum exhibitions such as Fresh-Cut (2013) at MAK, Vienna and Co-operation Would be Highly Appreciated (2015) at SCAD Museum in Georgia, USA.Some of her solo gallery exhibitions include That's Fucking Awesome, curated by Jérôme Sans at Galerist Istanbul in 2011, Thank You For your Cooperation (2014) and Truish (2017) at Gallery Isabelle van den Eynde, Dubai, 83% Satisfaction Guaranteed (2015) at Louise Alexander Gallery in Porto Cevro, Italy, Catastrophically Gorgeous (2018) curated by Yasmina Reggad at Eugster || Belgrade, Serbia and Obnoxiously Happy (2018) curated by Jérôme Sans at La Patinoire Royale / Galerie Valérie Bach, Brussels.
