Description
Mario Dilitz - Nº 197

Technique: Lost wax bronze

Artist Biography: Mario Dilitz is an Austrian sculptor born in 1973, known for his highly detailed and realistic human figures. His style is characterized by a great attention to detail and the use of materials such as bronze, wood and glass, which allow him to create fluid and organic forms.Dilitz has won numerous awards and recognitions, including the Franz und Lilly Weber-Reiter Sculpture Prize in 2001 and the City of Vienna Prize in 2006. His work has been exhibited in major museums and art galleries around the world, including the Venice Biennale, the Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in Paris and the Marlborough Gallery in New York.In his work, Dilitz focuses on the representation of the human body, but does not seek idealized perfection, preferring instead to explore the complexity and diversity of bodily forms. His figures appear to be in motion and express great emotionality and depth, often with elements that appear to have been carved directly into wood or bronze. In his most recent work, Dilitz has explored the relationship between the human figure and nature, creating sculptures that seem to merge with their natural surroundings.Overall, Mario Dilitz's work is an exploration of human nature and the complexity of physical and emotional forms. His sculptures are not only technically impressive, but also convey a deep humanity and emotionality, making them a reflection of human life and experience.

The ability to give expression to the human form, to transmit and translate its language is a skill, which sculptor Mario Dilitz definitely has. The artist seamlessly combines traditional sculptural knowledge and technical skills with topical issues. In this way, he manages to create sculptures of great intensity and appeal. Thus, his work is polarizing. There is a contrast between the aesthetic beauty of his sculptures and the content of the themes, in a profound confrontation with the vagaries of human existence. On the one hand, Mario Dilitz manifests the contradictions that occur in human nature, and on the other hand he knows how to unite them in his work. Even his choice of material reveals these contradictions. His sculptures, most of them life-size, are created in high quality laminated wood. After a process of destruction and then construction the wood has reached a new form of stability, which would not be possible in its natural condition. Furthermore, this process is made visible by the glue joints in the plywood. Mario Dilitz chooses red glue to sign his creations. Mario Dilitz contrasts the aesthetic beauty of his sculptures and the content of the subjects, in a profound confrontation with the vagaries of human existence. His sculptures, most of them life-size, are placed on the same physical plane as the spectator, in an eternal wait for a dialogue to begin.
