Artist Biography: María Sánchez is a Spanish artist whose work focuses on the exploration of memory, identity and personal narrative through photography and video. Born in 1988, she graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca in 2010 and has since exhibited her work in numerous galleries and contemporary art festivals both in Spain and abroad.In her artistic practice, María Sánchez uses photography as a tool to explore her own memory and that of those around her. Through her images, the artist reflects on the construction of personal and collective identity, using photography as a means to explore the past and the present. Her works are composed of thematic series that often revolve around the idea of family, home and intimacy.One of the most outstanding characteristics of María Sánchez's work is her ability to combine photography with other disciplines, such as video and installation, creating works that invite the viewer to immerse themselves in intimate and often emotional worlds. In her series "La Casa", for example, the artist uses photography, video and installation to explore her own family history, creating a space in which everyday objects become metaphors for memory and identity.In short, María Sánchez is a contemporary Spanish artist who uses photography, video and installation to explore memory, identity and personal narrative. Through her work, the artist invites the viewer to reflect on her own relationship with the past and the present, creating a space of intimacy and reflection that becomes a reflection of the complexity of the human experience.

 

CONNECTED If I were to talk about our life in these times, perhaps I would choose two concepts: socialization and communication. These are a basic human need and have become palpably evident in recent years, since in times of pressure, the power of adaptation, ingenuity and creativity emerge stronger. We have felt connected or disconnected in a paralyzed global world, where the possibilities of communication and socialization have been subject not only to technical or economic means, but also to family, residential, mental or sentimental ones. In short, we reinvented the world circumscribed in our home, we made new connections and reinforced or lost the usual ones. And in all this process, if there has been a new element of communication in the world, that has undoubtedly been the balcony, understood as window, balcony or rooftop. Music, applause, posters, flowers or dances, alone or in groups, studied or improvised, have been a new platform for expression and communication. This is my tribute to all those balconies that opened to a congested world to be a way of light and expression in the universal language of life. This series of sculptures reflect worlds connected through the balconies by means of small wooden houses and steel wires. With these elements as a base, I try to express the sensations or moods that I have received through messages since the first days of confinement. On the other hand, the materials chosen go further, being the remains of wood and steel from the bronze carvings and sculptures that I have made in my years of profession. It is also a tribute to the capacity for reinvention that, like many professionals, some of us artists have needed when we were unable to access our workshops or the materials and tools to work with.
