Marco Godoy - Por ti tambien lucho (For you too I fight)
Technique: Neon
Artist Biography:Marco Godoy presents his new series Letras de protesta at ARCO . The phrases presented in this series come from street graffiti and banners from the 15M protest in Madrid. These messages speak to us of creativity and the need to urgently capture a way of feeling, from humor, anger or irony, but they speak to us of a discontent. They contain social dimensions that are expressed from the urgency of the banner, their language has nothing to do with ideology but with "being together". In this series the messages are rescued and turned into neon to prevent them from disappearing, transforming the collective expression into a gesture that emits light. Marco Godoy's work consists of a set of strategies from which to make visible and manage disagreement. He uses the exhibition space as a place linked to specific moments of our social and political context. From these situations he proposes proposals that function as a response. Through visual formats such as video, sculpture and action, he proposes the way in which a figure of authority is constructed and legitimized through the use of images, spaces and actions. From how a family is organized to the structure of a State, these relationships speak of how we position ourselves in relation to others, of how these elements are staged, acquiring a degree of theatricality that is posed as scenography. In this sense, the exhibition space becomes a meeting place, a platform from which to seek ways to collaborate with individuals or collectives. The exchange, whether visible or not at the end of the process, is an important part of the work. Marco Godoy (Madrid 1986) lives and works between Madrid and London. He has participated in biennials, Liverpool Biennial 2014 and prestigious institutions such as Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), London, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, Whitechapel, London, all in 2015, Centre Pompidou, Paris, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin in 2016. In 2018 he presented a solo exhibition at Sala de Arte Joven thanks to the Primera Fase: Programa de Producción Artística Comunidad de Madrid-DKV award, as well as participating in "Generaciones" at La Casa Encendida.
