Manu Muñoz - The Floating World
Technique: Oil painting
Artist Biography: During the early nineties, Manu Muñoz (Cabo de Gata, Almería, 1977) began, in a completely accidental way, his relationship with the plastic arts through graffiti: three years dedicated exclusively to the realization of murals and interventions of all kinds. In 1993 he was invited to participate in a group exhibition for charity, an event that marked a turning point in his career. In the last half of the nineties he decided to dedicate himself almost entirely to painting, leaving graffiti in the background to work and experiment with new media and materials. It was during this period when he held his first exhibition in an art gallery in the Huertas district of Madrid. From that moment on, he participated in several group exhibitions in Spain and abroad, and his creative work became the artist's vital axis. In the year 2000, his series "Relative Humidity" opened the door to the Blanca Soto Gallery, where he had several exhibitions. At the same time, he obtained several awards and mentions, placing his work on the national artistic map. After a brief and necessary lethargy during the years 2005 and 2006, he moves his residence to London, a city that produces a strong change in the artist and his work. There, in the neighborhood of Chelsea, his exhibition "Psychotourism" reveals an unexpected turn towards figuration that remains in his work to this day. His work, spread over more than a hundred exhibitions, has been shown in several countries outside and inside Europe: Japan, the United States, Germany, Belgium and England. After the London period, he returned to Cabo de Gata, Almeria, where he currently lives and works.Manu Muñoz began his creative work in the world of graffiti in 1991. Two years later, after participating in a group exhibition with other local artists, he decided to dedicate himself completely to art. Since then he has had numerous exhibitions, both collective and individual, in Spain and abroad. Japan, Belgium, United States, Germany and England are the countries where his work has been shown. He has been awarded with some local and national prizes such as Certamen de Jóvenes Creadores de los Países Mediterráneos, Premio Andalucía Joven de Artes Plásticas or Certamen Pedro Gilabert. His place of work, except for his stay in London during the years 2009 and 2010 has always been Cabo de Gata. Graphic design and occasional collaborations for fashion complement his work.
