Josep Tornero - The Wall (1)
Artist Biography: Josep Tornero is a Spanish artist born in Valencia in 1973. His work focuses mainly on photography and video art, although he has also experimented with painting and sculpture. Tornero graduated in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, and later obtained a scholarship to continue his studies in New York. Since then, his work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums both in Spain and abroad. Tornero's work is characterized by the use of a minimalist and refined aesthetic, in which the visual elements are reduced to their essence. His compositions often present everyday objects and urban landscapes, but always with a conceptual approach that goes beyond mere visual representation. Josep Tornero has received several awards and recognitions for his work. Some of the most outstanding are:First Prize of the National Contest of Plastic Arts of Alfajarín (1998)Scholarship of the Marcelino Botín Foundation for the realization of the project "Trazos" (2001)First Prize of the National Contest of Plastic Arts of Zaragoza (2004)Scholarship of the Academy of Spain in Rome (2007-2008)First Prize of Contemporary Photography of the Community of Madrid (2012)In addition, his work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums both in Spain and abroad, and is part of prestigious public and private collections.
We understand the image as a carrier of phobic reminiscences, of emotional tensions transmitted from epoch to epoch. The darkest and most repressed of a culture is what survives, even if only as impressions underlying the apparent formal order.
