Artist Biography: José Vera Matos is a contemporary Peruvian artist who works with diverse media, such as painting, sculpture, installation and video art. He was born in Lima in 1981 and studied at the Faculty of Art and Design of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. Her work is characterized by exploring themes related to cultural identity, memory and history, as well as the relationship between nature and culture.In her work, Vera Matos uses an abstract and minimalist aesthetic, with geometric shapes and vibrant colors that suggest the vitality of nature. At the same time, his works have a strong conceptual content, addressing social and political issues related to Peru's past and present.Among José Vera Matos' most notable exhibitions is his participation in the Venice Biennale in 2015, where he presented an installation titled "Peruvian Pavilion: Yuncán," which explored the contradictions between indigenous and Western culture in the context of Peru's history. In addition, she has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Peru, the United States, Spain, France and other countries.Vera Matos has also received various recognitions and awards throughout her career, including the Peruvian National Culture Award in the Visual Arts category in 2016, and the CIFO Contemporary Art Award in 2017. His work has been widely recognized for its originality, conceptual depth and technical skill, making him one of Peru's most important and representative contemporary artists.
