Jaume Plensa - Rusticatio Civitati Piratarum
Biography of the Artist: Jaume Plensa was born in Barcelona in 1955 and today is one of the most prominent and internationally renowned sculptors in the world of visual arts.He began his artistic training at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona and has since worked in a variety of artistic manifestations, from drawing to sculpture, graphic work, opera sets, video projections and acoustic installations.Plensa is known for his ability to work with a wide variety of materials, including polyester resin, steel, iron, water, glass and nylon. His sculptures are interactive and the viewer must interact with the pieces. His work is based on the dimension of man and his relationship with the environment, and has become a reference in the field of contemporary sculpture.Among Plensa's most outstanding works are the sculpture "Nomade", located at Rockefeller Center in New York, and "Crown Fountain", an installation in Chicago's Millennium Park. His works have been exhibited in major museums and galleries around the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Georges Pompidou National Center for Art and Culture in Paris.In 2012, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Vic, in recognition of his artistic career and his contribution to the contemporary art world.
