Francisco Mendes Moreira - "Man gave names to all the animals"
Artist Biography: Francisco Mendes Moreira is a self-taught artist born in 1984 and based in Lisbon. In recent years, he has gained a large following both online and at international exhibitions in North America, Europe, and Australia.Moreira begins his intuitive problem-solving workflow, using a variety of supports and surfaces, and working predominantly with oil pastels and collage. His style straddles realism and abstraction, and his images raise questions about human nature and existence in the universe. Although analysis has little space in his creative process, it can be seen that Moreira's practice is a continuous commentary and mise-en-scène of events related to the human condition. His work is based on an intuitive approach that is often triggered by contemporary culture and supports both psychological and political aspects. Moreira uses the materials he finds in his day-to-day life, and the scale of his works can vary considerably. His work has been exhibited around the world and has gained a huge following for his unique approach and ability to capture the complexity of human life.
