Description
DIONISIO GONZÁLEZ - Inter-Actions 12

Technique: Cotton paper on dibond framed in white lacquered wood.

Artist Biography: Dionisio González was born in Gijón in 1965 and graduated in Fine Arts at the Faculty of Seville. After graduating, he furthered his studies in Computer Aided Imaging at Wilkey's Moor Print Workshop in Devon and in Fine Art Printmaking at the College of Art at Heriott Watt University in Edinburgh. He also completed his training in Film and Television at the Escola de Artes Avanzadas Aula do Risco in Lisbon.Architecture is the main theme in Dionisio Gonzalez's work. In his studio, he creates fictitious constructions with an incredible degree of detail and then grafts them onto different real environments that he has photographed in situ. This process of reinvention of suburban landscapes, not exempt from a certain baroque style, poses a profound reflection on the ways of inhabiting the contemporary city, an investigation into the ways of living in the 21st century and the relationships that man establishes with the environment.Dionisio Gonzalez's photography shows an excellent handling of the technique of photomanipulation, spaces and light as elements that make up an alternative reality to the universe we live in. His images are only a part of a much longer process that aims to explore the idea of thought and the development of the concepts that move Dionisio, his fascination for architecture, his concern for social decadence, and the permanent search for enclaves where chaos and beauty coexist.Throughout his career, Dionisio González has received important awards such as the Pilar Juncosa and Sotheby's Award, the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró Award and the European Month of Photography Arendt Award (Luxembourg), among others. His work is present in important institutions such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago or the Centro Nacional de Arte Contemporáneo in Paris, as well as in prominent public and private collections.

Dionisio González (Gijón, 1965) Graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Seville, he furthered his studies in Computer-Aided Image at Wilkey's Moor Print Workshop in Devon, England, in Art Printmaking at the College of Art at Heriott Watt University in Edinburgh, completing his training with Film and Television at the Escola de Artes Avanzadas Aula do Risco in Lisbon. Architecture is his main subject. His photography, based on fictitious recreations of constructions grafted in different environments, is based on the author's profound reflection on the ways of inhabiting the contemporary city, an investigation into the ways of living in the 21st century and the relationships that man establishes with the environment. These are images taken in situ by the artist and then digitally modified in his studio, in a process of re-invention of suburban landscapes not exempt from a certain baroque style. In Dionisio Gonzalez's photography we can clearly appreciate an excellent handling of the technique of photomanipulation, of spaces and light as elements that make up an alternative reality to the universe we live in, a parallel universe, but a very real one. Beyond the mere photomontage, his images are only a part of a much longer process in which what really counts is the idea, the thought and the development of the concepts that move Dionisio, his fascination for architecture, his concern for social decadence, and the permanent search for enclaves where chaos and beauty coexist. Dionisio González has received important international awards, such as the Pilar Juncosa and Sotheby's Award, the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró Award, and the European Month of Photography Arendt Award (Luxembourg), among others. His work is also present in important institutions such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, in Madrid, the Museum of Contemporary Photography, in Chicago, USA, or the Centre National d'Art Contemporain in Paris, as well as in prominent public and private collections.
