Antoni Miralda - Philadelphia, 1977 / Vienna, 1976
Artist Biography: Antoni Miralda is a Catalan artist born in 1942 in the city of Terrassa, Spain. He is known for his artworks that explore the relationship between food, culture, and identity. After studying at the Barcelona School of Fine Arts, ?? Miralda moved to Paris in 1966, where he became involved in the Fluxus movement and began working on collaborations with other artists. In 1971, he moved to New York, where he immersed himself in the performance art scene and worked on works involving food and ritual. In the 1980s, Miralda returned to Barcelona and began work on a series of works that focused on culinary culture and cultural identity. In one of his best-known works, The International (1984-1986), Miralda created an artsy restaurant in New York that served dishes from around the world in a multicultural environment. The installation included cultural artifacts from around the world and became a popular spot for New York's arts and culture scene.In recent years, Miralda has continued to work on food art projects around the world, and has been recognized for his influence on culinary culture and art. His work has been exhibited in major contemporary art museums around the world, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
