Artist Biography: Ángeles San José is a prominent Spanish artist born in Madrid in 1961. Her work focuses mainly on painting, although she has also worked in other media such as sculpture and Print. Her style is characterized by a focus on the human figure and an exploration of the emotions and psychology of the human being.San José studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Madrid and later at the School of Fine Arts and Design in New York. Since then, he has exhibited in numerous galleries and museums around the world, including the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid. In his work, San José uses a loose, expressive brushstroke technique, creating images that appear to be in constant motion. His human figures are often presented in introspective and melancholic attitudes, suggesting a preoccupation with human emotions and psychology. She has also explored themes such as motherhood and femininity, as well as social and political issues.Among the awards she has received throughout her career are the Spanish National Plastic Arts Award in 1999 and the GAC (Contemporary Art Galleries) Award for best solo exhibition in 2013. His work can be found in numerous public and private collections, including the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid and the Fundación La Caixa.

Ángeles San José (Madrid 1961) is a Spanish painter with a long exhibition career complemented by numerous grants and awards.1 Professional Career Graduated in Fine Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid in 1984, she began her artistic career exhibiting at the Machon Gallery in Madrid, her work in the beginning was material that will evolve towards more intimate solutions. Influenced by the German painter Gerard Richter.2 San José uses painting in a very personal way, combining it with photography and drawing for the construction of monochrome images from the use of minimal elements. San José works in a serial way in both his pictorial and photographic works. His painting offers subtle nuances in the specific treatment of color and matter, with values that reveal the differences in their chromatic gradation and density. In the words of historian Marta González Orbegozo, San José's works are "paintings (.resinadas?), photographs (.darregotipadas?)", which emphasize the ambiguity that characterizes his images. A calm work that reflects on the limits of representation and in which the experience of deposited time, accumulated in each project, acquires a material presence that underlines the processual character of the proposal.
