ALBERTO BARCIA - Portrait 20
Biography of the Artist: Alberto Barcia (Tossa de Mar, Girona, 1982). Artist of strong and impulsive stroke that presents a work in ink on paper of surrealist character, delving into the distortions of the human being in its most vulnerable aspect: emotions and feelings. Not exempt from a certain perversion and debauchery in the expression of his work, his studies and knowledge of illustration allow him to offer an extremely psychological vision - the Freudian butterfly on reminiscences of childhood memories, or the ink-stained and folded sheet (The Rorschach test) - can be easily identified, through an abstraction, without gestures and forms but based on the constant expression of strange masses and corporeal sets, presenting an aesthetic approach, of extreme, intense and unusual plasticity of complex and methodical execution, which finally culminates in works of subjugating fascination. Thanks to his self-taught, mitteleuropean education, Alberto Barcia also studied at the Llotja (Escola d'Art i Superior de Disseny de Barcelona) specializing in illustration. He studied with Luis Casado Cadarso, artist and one of the creators of the interdisciplinary project, La Xina Art (Barcelona), and Xavier Canals, visual poet and historian of his own specialty. He has participated in group exhibitions in China: Art in context in 2020. His first solo exhibition took place at the Reial Cercle Artístic de Barcelona, in September 2022 under the title: 25 Portraits. His artistic career includes seven years of residence in Berlin, in the districts of Kreuzberg and Neukölln, hotspots of artistic creation in the city, in a studio that occupied the space of the old and feared Stasi, IDS (Intelligene Department Studios). Subsequently, he lived for a long period in the capital of Hungary, Budapest. Currently, he lives and works with his own studio both in Barcelona and Budapest.
