Andrea Canepa - A reverse into the future
Technique: Cloth, iron, wood, sound
Artist Biography:A reverse into the future is inspired by the Kindred of the Kibbo Kift, a British group founded in 1920 that developed an ideology based on camping and craftsmanship, promoting a new form of education through outdoor activities. The Kibbo Kift followed the model of a hermetic order and aimed to regenerate "urban man" through practices and rituals in nature. They organized camping, parades, and other events in natural spaces. Its members were known for their distinctive dress, which along with the decoration of their tents and ceremonial staffs was strongly influenced by the avant garde artistic movements of the time. Although the group was born out of disenchantment with industrial civilization after the devastation of World War I, A Reverse into the Future broadens the aesthetic of the movement by linking it to current concerns about the future. The textiles are embellished with latent references to databases, asteroid mining, neural networks and space travel, imagining contemporary traditions and rituals through timeless symbols.
