Saracho (Angel Hurtado de Saracho) - Hantaisoku o Mite
Technique: Acrylic
Artist Biography: Saracho (Ángel Hurtado de Saracho) (Asturias, Spain, 1973) has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Leioa in the Basque Country. He has exhibited in public institutions, foundations and art galleries in Asturias, Castilla y León, Madrid and Barcelona, and has participated in fairs such as Room Art Fair in Madrid, Cuarto Público in Santiago de Compostela and Flecha Artea in Bilbao. His work can be found in private collections and in the collection of Paradores de España. They are mostly urban landscapes, moments of cities in which their light and their people are captured on canvas from a pictorial perspective rather than a landscape perspective. The city or the character are anonymous, barely recognizable, although we know from the titles and Saracho's passion for travel that they have been seen all over the world. In his creations, composition and color rule, the sketchy form that moves towards abstraction, schematism and light. These are procedures with which Saracho manages to accurately describe the atmosphere of these snippets of life, generally relaxed and laughing scenes."Mr. Talbot's Confined Stridencies." In this new exhibition by Saracho in which he presents a selection of his latest works, we can see an evolution in the artist's pictorial research. Mainly his study is still based on impressionistic analysis/synthesis, but in some pieces we begin to appreciate a narrative, not so explicitly present in his previous work. Perhaps this narrative has arisen intentionally, or perhaps it has arisen from that personal and intimate dialogue that the artist maintains with the painting itself during the process of realization. Regarding the analysis, Saracho continues to base his research on color, the main pictorial property in his work. Regarding the Theme of the works presented, we can see that Saracho continues with two lines, a more urban, in which the artist presents figures in urban corners, in which the figures build a pictorial composition, but at the same time some works (and this is where the narrative comes in), the author allows the viewer to observe each figure individually, his gesture, his attitude, his waiting ... And another line where nature is more present, a nature with an expressive and free painting. Curiously, although there are fewer pieces of this second line, two of them are the large format of this exhibition. Is it a coincidence that the two large format pieces are of nature, could it be that the confinement has influenced this intimate dialogue that Saracho maintains with the painting in his studio? Maybe, maybe... Ángel Hurtado de Saracho (Gijón, 1973) graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Leioa in the Basque Country. Already in the Faculty of Fine Arts, his work stood out for a very personal figuration, in which he represents anonymous locations and characters, moments that apparently may be unimportant, but that are part of his life experience. In his last year at the Faculty he was awarded a scholarship from Paradores de Turismo, and at the end of it, a jury chaired by the prestigious painter Antonio Lopez selected his work to be part of the permanent collection of Paradores de España. Saracho has had numerous collective and individual exhibitions in Public Institutions, Foundations and Art Galleries, as well as having participated in fairs such as "Room Art Fair" in Madrid, "Cuarto Público" in Santiago de Compostela, "Art3F" in Bordeaux, France or Flecha Artea in Bilbao. In addition, he has obtained several residential grants, the last one at the International Symposium of artists in Noja, Sianoja 2017, in which he was one of the resident participants. His work can be found in private collections, municipal art galleries and in the public collection of Paradores de España. "Painting loaded with loose brushstrokes and chromatic stains, in which figures and colors are deployed to show the spaces through which his gaze transits ready to capture lived instants. A renewed and very personal figuration that as open windows have the ability to attract the viewer's gaze". Camino Sayago - Art critic
