Sebas Anxo - Blower
Technique: Mixed media on paper
Artist Biography:He has been present in almost all the major group exhibitions held in Galicia in recent years, including the 1997 exhibition of contemporary sculpture in Galicia, terra única, and has taken his work to other exhibitions in Portugal and Argentina. Sebas Anxo cultivates a magicist abstraction, vaguely related to surrealism, with references to Paul Klee and Kandinsky. Anthropomorphic forms and objects are installed in wide ideal spaces, like a capricious dance, in warm, sharp ranges, with terse drawings, in the manner of ideal landscapes. He combines the stain, of very light matter, with the "collage" and the hesitant stroke, in blacks, so that his peculiar invented creatures gravitate in such lucubrations. Everything is as if insinuated, like an unfinished sketch, of calculated lightness. Attenuated reds and auroral yellows combine with blacks, in tangent polygons or partially superimposed. Sometimes absolute informalism arrives, so that his landscapes, serene in baroque, are suggestions of indeterminable volumes, whimsically coloured, as in a non-existent writing which, nevertheless, responds to an imaginable semiotic code. Of course, nothing is improvised but, on the contrary, thought out, calculated. It happens that the lightness of the execution takes hold of the result, for that sensation of arbitrary spontaneity that connects with a tradition that is in Picabia, Miró and Germanic Post-Expressionism.
