Ksenia Shinkovskaya - Special Optics
Technique: Felt and glass
Artist Biography:Felt as a sculptural element is the basis on which Ksenia's imaginary is built, through one of the oldest forms of obtaining textile material already existing in prehistory, even before the invention of weaving; she combines the ancient tradition of felt that exists in many Asian and Nordic peoples with a futuristic design in the style of biopunk, a concept that develops the idea of a future world where supported by scientific discoveries humanity becomes a harmonious part of the biosphere. In his pieces he combines contemporaneity and tradition, complementing his works with the implementation of natural elements, such as wood or glass, loading them with symbolism, trying to convey to the viewer a version of the history of humanity in which nothing is superfluous, where it is necessary to rediscover a balance between man and nature. You have probably heard the famous quote attributed to Sartre: "A person has a hole in his soul the size of God, and each one fills it as he can". After long experiments, I realized that mine does not need to be filled, on the contrary, it is similar to the peephole of a door, and through it a strange vision and angle of what is happening opens up to me. And you? Have you found yours?
