Julia Varela - Es war Erde in inhen
Artist Biography: Julia Varela (Madrid, 1986) is an artist who focuses on the materiality and medium of images in the digital age. Her research concentrates on the states that cannot be represented and what is resistant to representation, the physical form of her work examines the globalization of technology and the concept of visuality. Her work intensifies the physical interaction with devices and their mechanisms, providing an alternative understanding of concepts such as context and desire.Julia participated in the Critical Images research program at Kungl. Konsthögskolan Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm, Sweden. She holds a degree in Fine Art and an MA in Art Sculpture from the Royal College of Art in London. Her recent exhibitions have taken place in several international galleries and museums, including the Centro de Cultura Contemporánea CondeDuque in Madrid, the Fundació Suñol in Barcelona and the KIASMA Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki, and she is currently artist-in-residence at HANGAR, Centre de producció i recerca d'arts visuals in Barcelona.
Es war Erde in ihnen is a series of suspended 'traces' that, based on a poem by Paul Celan, deals with the images of memory, those that are permanently reinterpreted.
This work includes a certificate of authenticity. A certificate of authenticity is a document from an authoritative source that verifies the authentication value of the work of art. The certificate may be signed by the author of the work, by the representing gallery or by the printmaker who collaborated with the artist on the work.

- If the work is to be permanently illuminated, we recommend the use of cold light bulbs. Use a soft feather duster for periodic cleaning of the work. Never use household cleaner.
