Ernesto Neto - S. T.
Technique: Mixed technique
Artist Biography:Ernesto Neto is a Brazilian Conceptual artist whose installations offer a chance for the viewer to touch, see, smell, and feel his artworks for a truly sensory experience. "For me, mind and body are one thing, always together," the artist has said. "I believe in the sensual body, and it is through the movement of such body-minds that we connect the things in this world, in life-the way we touch, the way we feel, the way we think and the way we deal." His practice explores the boundaries of physical and social space through interactive, tactile, and biomorphic structures. Born in 1964 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he currently lives and works, Neto studied at the city's Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage from 1994 to 1997. The artist had his first survey exhibition in 2011 with the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey in Mexico, and since then has been the subject of major museum exhibitions worldwide. In summer 2018, Neto had a large installation entitled GaiaMotherTree at the Zurich train station, in collaboration with Fondation Beyeler, with a month-long corresponding public and education program that took place inside the work. His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Tate Gallery in London, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and The Museum of Modern Art in New York, among others.
