David Rodríguez Caballero - Prosopon
Artist Biography: David Rodríguez Caballero is a sculptor born in Palencia, Spain in 1970, who currently resides in New York since 2011. He graduated in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country and specializes in sculptures with refined lines. He uses materials such as aluminum, brass and bronze for his works, and plays with light refractions on surfaces to create interesting optical effects. He also experiments with other plastic materials, such as vinyl, and has made incursions into the field of jewelry.Rodríguez Caballero's work has been exhibited in galleries, museums and public institutions around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in Moscow, the Würth Museum in La Rioja, the Oteiza Foundation Museum and other institutions in Europe and the United States. He has also participated in numerous art fairs such as the International Contemporary Art Fair of Miami, TEFAF Maastricht, Contemporary Istanbul, Art Basel Hong-Kong, MACO of Mexico, Art Rio, ARCO and Estampa. He has won numerous awards throughout his career, such as the International Award of Print Bodegas Dinastía Vivanco (Museum of Contemporary Art Union Fenosa, 2006), the Volksbank Paderborn Painting Prize (Paderborn, Germany, 1996) and others. Rodríguez Caballero's work is characterized by its minimalism and elegance, and has been praised for his ability to create works that are both simple and complex at the same time, working with metal and vinyl in abstract forms charged with dynamism, playing with the projections of light and shadow as a compositional part of the work. His works reached the monumental scale gradually, first from painting, then from wall sculpture and later with free-standing sculpture.by incorporating the curved line, he enriched the three-dimensionality of a creative universe based on the fold, sometimes reminiscent of origami. He has been represented by the Marlborough Gallery since 2005, where he has had outstanding exhibitions such as ''Abstracciones poéticas'' (2017, Madrid), and ''Vinyls'' (2016, New York).
