David Catá - Life behind the window, 03
Technique: photography
Artist Biography: David Catá's work establishes a game between personal memory and the creative act. A temporary act that is recorded through photography, video, painting and even sculpture. The evocative power of personal objects and photographs from his family album serve as inspiration. Through them he reflects on time, memory and the way to delay the process of forgetting, using ephemeral elements such as ice, thread, dandelions, salt... Sometimes it is his own body that becomes the artistic support of his environment and his experiences. The stitching and fissures made on her skin are intended as a metaphor for the indissoluble symbiosis between the passage of time and oblivion. Her work aspires to the preservation of the past time through the memorial, corporal, photographic, videographic trace... It is a work that goes beyond an aesthetic search. Her performative videos are a cathartic exercise, in them she faces oblivion and the sadness left by the absence of a loved one, "making flesh" the suffering and physically detaching herself from it once and for all. The ephemeral nature of life, the physical and immaterial trace, pain... are closely linked to his work. "All the people we meet mark us in some way. Their image is projected on us, reminding us of where we come from. Their lives become part of ours. Each stitch on my skin represents them, physical pain is not a border, it unites us more, thinking that my hand has been marked in an act of affection; thinking that at the time my hand has touched their hand."
