Description
Ana H. del Amo - S/T

Technique: Wood and oil

Artist Biography: The research of Ana H. del Amo (Cáceres, 1977) through the form focuses on expressing herself through color, line and materials, resulting in pieces of abstract character of various formalizations; between intuitive geometry and gestural, worked through relationships and dialogues with materials. The work process is not at all orthodox, for this reason the method used varies depending on the characteristics of each material and the context. It is through play and dialogue, as the works are resolved, sometimes using the gestures of the incorporation of color and other times respecting the characteristics or scars of the materials and objects. Each piece created offers us one possibility out of a thousand, and it is here where the creator puts all her end. Resolved in a subtle way, where the game of possibilities is present in the processes. Luminous colors, even fluorescent, forms that refuse to be enclosed and even less classified. Forms of refined appearance, where we can appreciate details or errors of the pulse of the action of creating.Ana H. del Amo has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona. She has exhibited, individually and collectively, in spaces such as the Can Felipa Cultural Center, Barcelona; Casa de Velázquez, Madrid; MAC Unión Fenosa, A Coruña; Centre del Carme, Valencia; Luis Adelantado Gallery, Valencia; Sala Josep Renau, University of Valencia; Rosa Santos Gallery, Valencia; Museum of Cáceres; Parliament of Extremadura, Mérida; Pérez Comendador-Leroux Museum, Hervás, Cáceres; Rafael Pérez Hernando Gallery, Madrid; Set Espai d'Art, Valencia, Fran Reus Gallery, Palma de Mallorca; Juan Silió, Madrid and in La Lance, Switzerland and in Cáceres Abierto among others. She received a scholarship from the Academy of Spain in Rome in 2005, in 2006, 2008 and 2018 she was awarded the Francisco de Zurbarán Plastic Artists Aid by the Junta de Extremadura. She has been DKV Acquisition Award, Nocapaper Collection Award and Casa de Velázquez Award in Estampa in 2016. And in 2019 she will receive a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation of New York and in 2020 she will receive a grant from Vegap.

"Ana H. del Amo imitates nature itself when she points to the insignificant to reach the transcendent, when she demands from the viewer a more attentive vision and a circular, non-linear understanding; when she poses her work as a game of subtleties where materials, shapes, colors and textures seem to start a spontaneous and festive dance, immanent to another free and optimistic way of seeing the world, supported by sensuality and counter-asepsis and in no need of iron rules or steps that follow previously stipulated hierarchies." (Guillermo Espinosa, curator and cultural journalist) "A tres tiempos" is a collaborative game with artisans from Extremadura for which the artist was awarded the Ayudas artistas visuales de la Junta de Extremadura 2018. In the words of the artist herself "we can see works that are built through different craft trades, such as basketry and carpentry, in this case the pieces have passed through different hands and with it also through different times of execution. Artworks that I have made as a symphony, where artisans have had to interpret my designs and where my work has been in charge of the development, composition and final art." "Ana H. del Amo turns the pieces sent to her by the artisans destined to be elements of those paintings expanded in a sculptural way on the wall, into an appropriate material for decollage: she takes them to an ultimate experimental-gestural field that combines drawing, discard geometries, overlapping of planes and colors. It is a transit between dimensions suggested by the intervention process itself, and a way of returning to the original sketch from the final sculptural piece".
