Carlos Marcote - RÍA
Artist Biography: Carlos Marcote is a Spanish contemporary artist born in Salvatierra, Álava in 1950. Marcote studied at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid, where he graduated with a degree in painting. Since then, he has been dedicated to his artistic career, producing a singular body of work that has been exhibited in galleries and museums in Spain and abroad. Marcote's work is characterized by his focus on reverie and the poetics of places, creating a dreamlike and magical world that seems to evoke the memory of places and spaces in the viewer's mind. In his paintings, you can appreciate recognizable landscapes and settings, but presented in a way that borders on abstraction, emphasizing light, color, and texture. Marcote has received numerous recognitions and awards for his work, such as the Gold Medal of the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid in 1985, the Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas in 1989 and the Prize of the Federico Coullaut Valera Foundation in 2002. He has also been awarded fellowships and residencies at prestigious art institutions, such as the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid.
