Juan Uslé Juan Uslé, an artist with a long career and a key figure in the Spanish and international contemporary art scene, presents in "A slow dance", his first solo exhibition at the Rafael Ortiz Gallery in Seville, a careful selection of his latest works, both on paper and on canvas. A slow dance. Time stands still, or almost; the cadenced movements remind us of those scenes where precision is fundamental; haste has no place in those moments. The balance, the pulse, are fundamental. From the solitude of his studio, Juan Uslé (Santander, 1954) manages to transmit his thoughts, memories and lived landscapes. His painting, pure meditation, starts from an absolutely theoretical approach in a constant search for the existential: water, light, silence, the infinite. To understand Uslé's most recent work it is necessary to immerse oneself in his spaces/works. They are inhabitable spaces - the artist himself speaks of breathing pulse - that are impregnated with his vital rhythm, a rhythm that he transmits in a leisurely manner, as if telling us the mystery of his creation in his ear. His mastery is moving because when he invites us to go through the works slowly, it is almost like sitting next to him and imbibing a calm way of working in which, despite the method, each brushstroke is a new experience. In the words of Mónica Carballas "... the painting is perceived as a surface to be populated. We go over it with our eyes following the lines that sweep the canvas, interpreting its pneuma, we immerse ourselves in the deepest layers of color and explore the different regions of the painting. In Uslé's case, to paint a picture is to create a place..." His work is part of museums and public collections such as the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris, France), MNCARS Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid), Musèe d'Art Moderne (Luxembourg, Luxembourg), Moderna Museet (Stockholm, Sweden), Museum Boijmans van Beuningen (Rotterdam, Netherlands), Staatsgalerie Moderner Kunst (Munich, Germany) or Tate Modern (London, UK), among others.
