Technique: Oil painting
Artist Biography: Benjamin Tous is a contemporary artist born in Lleida, Spain, in 1949. He trained as an artist at the School of Arts and Crafts in Lleida and later at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona.Tous began his artistic career in the 1970s, and his work focused on the exploration of the human figure and nature. Using drawing, painting and sculpture techniques, Tous created works that reflected his deep interest in anatomy, expression and human movement. In the 1980s, Tous began experimenting with new media and techniques, including photography and installation. His work became more abstract and conceptual, but he continued to explore themes such as identity and the perception of the human being in relation to the world around him.One of Tous' best known works is "The Garden of Mirrors," an installation of mirrors and water that created an optical illusion effect and reflected light in an astonishing way. This work was exhibited in several galleries and contemporary art museums in Europe and Latin America. In addition to his career as an artist, Tous has also been an activist committed to the Catalan culture movement. He has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions and has received several awards and recognitions for his work.Currently, Benjamin Tous continues to work in his studio in Lleida and remains an important figure in the contemporary art scene in Spain. His work continues to explore relevant and universal themes related to human nature and its relationship to the world around him.Benjamín Tous is a multifaceted painter, a child who preserves his innocence, imagination and ability to create fantastic worlds. His is a look from an inner, personal, intimate world. The painter has to believe, to know, that the game is the needle that marks the hours, the spaces, of each canvas, of each brushstroke, of each painting. The clock of creativity needs bright, open eyes, attentive to the sensitivity that we ordinary people have already lost. His painting has obtained numerous recognitions and several galleries in Barcelona, Lleida, Asturias, Malaga... and the rest of Europe have, as art background, some of his pieces. Born in Almacelles (Lleida) in 1949, he graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona. He has exhibited in both Catalan and Asturian galleries, being his last exhibitions at the Barjola Museum in 2019, as he has had his residence and workshop in Gijón for more than 15 years. He is a true creative source, who has cultivated both the comic, with characters such as Eloy, who has been appearing for more than thirty years in publications of Tàrrega. His way of understanding art is as a game, and his registers are so many, that every day of the week he paints from a different personality and, with each one, he works with different styles, different colors and even signs the paintings with different typographies. Whoever enters his studio for the first time (just behind the Palau de la Música, in the center of Barcelona) cannot help but look everywhere. There are paintings, drawings and illustrations everywhere. There are more than a hundred square meters dedicated to the imagination and fantasy of a tireless creator. Tous' painting is a self-referential painting. Albert Lladó
