Xavier Monsalvatje - Building a new world II

Technique: Porcelain tile

Artist Biography: Xavier Monsalvatje is a contemporary artist born in Godella, Valencia, in 1965. He graduated in the specialty of artistic ceramics at the Escuela de Artes Aplicadas y Oficios Artísticos de Valencia in 1988. Ceramics was his choice because he worked in a ceramics factory and collaborated with his brother Jorge, who is also a ceramist. During his studies, he was a student of the renowned ceramist Enric Mestre. After graduating, Xavier obtained a scholarship from the European Union to broaden his knowledge related to artistic ceramics in Caldas de Rainha, Portugal. In 1989 he was invited to the creative ceramics course at the Escuela de Cerámica de Manises, and in 1990 he graduated in the specialty of silkscreen printing at the Escuela de Arte y Diseño de Valencia, as he has always been interested in graphic processes.Since 1992, his work has focused on the study of industrial architecture and urbanism, and has been divided between ceramics, painting, graphic work, drawing and installation. In 1996, Xavier was one of the founding members of the Society of artists Purgatori, and in 1998 he founded, together with other artists, La-Corporation, as a support and safeguard of Industrial Heritage. In 2013, Xavier joined the association APIVA (Valencian Industrial Heritage Association).Xavier Monsalvatje's work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and art fairs, both national and international, and has been recognized with several awards and special mentions. His work is a reflection on industrial architecture, the city and nature, and combines elements of ceramics, painting and graphics in a contemporary and personal vision.

Vision of a post-industrial city in which the means of production establish the mechanisms of sociability and indoctrination. Biological processes in constant mutability and in which citizens are programmed and constructed to constitute and build a better world, an ideal city.
