Pep Agut - "C' est avec ta pensée que je pense".
Artist Biography: Pep Agut (Terrassa, Barcelona, 1961) studied at the Sant Jordi Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona (1979-84). He participated in the Games of the XXIII Olympiad in Los Angeles (1984). Between 1988 and 1991 he lived in Cologne (FRG) until 1991, when he was invited to Paris by the Fondation Cartier. He returned to Barcelona in 1992. He currently lives in Terrassa. He has participated in solo and group exhibitions at important events such as the XLV Venice Biennale (1993), Prospekt (1996), the XI Sydney Biennale (1998), Art Unlimited, Basel (2004) and in institutions such as the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tel Aviv (1993) or the MACBA, Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (2000), among others. He has coordinated and participated in debates and conferences and has given seminars at the University of Barcelona.
From the very title, the work Avec tes yeux, avec ta voix refers us to the body and the voice of the other and, more specifically, to the other who is the person loved, evoked and longed for in the distance. Each of the pieces that make up this four-color work is a phrase perforated in matter, a set of words made of emptiness that express the love that persists in the absence of the other (Malgré ton absence je t'aime), the intensity of a desire that makes the loving subject mimic the thoughts, dreams and desires of the loved one (C'est avec ta pensée que je pense, C'est avec tes rêves que je rêve, C'est avec tes désirs que je désire). The work makes evident the capacity of words to not only affect emotions and feelings, but also to strike the body and affect it physically. Avec tes yeux, avec ta voix also speaks to us of the word as a vehicle of love in the absence and distance of the beloved subject, of its capacity to represent the other and make him or her present.
This work includes a certificate of authenticity. A certificate of authenticity is a document from an authoritative source that verifies the authentication value of the work of art. - Avoid sudden changes in temperature. It is recommended to keep the paintings in areas with an ambient temperature of between 18-20º and 50% relative humidity.
- If the work is to be permanently illuminated, we recommend the use of cold light bulbs. Use a soft feather duster for periodic cleaning of the work. Never use household cleaner.
