DAFNE ARTIGOT - Evolution /
Artist Biography: The world my eyes see is always more fanciful than the real one and I have a rather acid sense of humor. Social criticism is present in almost all my work. I love to generate parallel worlds with how things should be and if I can get a smile out of the viewer I don't hesitate to do it. I like everything excessive, bright colors, the B series and its monsters are a great influence in my work as well as science fiction, superheroes and fantasy films. We live in times oversaturated with images and products, life in the cities is a constant temptation to obtain the consumption of unnecessary things. Within this system are the great idols that play the role of messiahs of modern life, those influencers whose image we see repeated ad nauseam like the cover of Bowie's Aladdin Sane. Religion is another of my obsessions with its kitsch and baroque aesthetics, reinterpreting it mixed with cinema or current trends in street art, skateboarding, tattooing ..... Decontextualizing things to generate contrasts of elements that don't fit together is my usual way of working. My intention is not to be preachy but I like that, apart from the first impression, the viewer thinks about whether this work would be feasible in our life. Would Jesus today be a graffiti artist? Would he wear tattoos? Would he preach in a church or surely he would be a rapper with thousands of followers? I'm in art for the fun of inventing worlds better than the real one, and besides I can't resist a box of crayons, it's the best of temptations.
