Andrés Fernández Cervantes - ¡Ay de mi Llorona!
Technique: Catrina of my Heart
Artist Biography: Andrés Fernández Cervantes is a Mexican painter. He began his development in the art world at a very early age and considers that more than a rigorous technique, his graphic work is closer to the visual development of three of his great influences and passions. The first of these is the language of comics. With an innate facility for drawing, Andrés reflects this influence in his work through a simple, casual and very colorful language. Always trying to tell a story in each work. Another influence has been the world of fairies and stories that take place in enchanted places, which gives his works a playful atmosphere, sometimes childish and fanciful, leaving a touch of "Mexicanness" that makes them rich in characters, colors and textures. Finally, Andres has been involved in the world of design and fashion, giving his work a "fashion" style rich in clothing from different eras and countries, due to his great interest in the history of fashion and clothing, writing a book that spans from prehistory to the XXI century. Currently, this restless creator gives some lectures and workshops at the Museum of Art and History of Guanajuato, in the city of Leon, in addition to participating as an illustrator for various corporate companies, culture, fashion and communication. As a teacher by conviction he has given courses, workshops and classes in several fashion and design schools in León, Querétaro and online for BADA, Buenos Aires. In 2008 under the direction of publicist Jorge Mendoza launches his brand "Corazonadas Mexico" with a series of decorative items; object art and fashion, using his work as the main graphic of the brand that is currently sold in nationally recognized franchises, in about forty stores in Mexico and exported to Colombia, Panama, France, Spain and USA. Andres has more than 160 exhibitions to his credit and has exhibited his work in the most important and dynamic galleries and museums in Mexico; Paris, Madrid, Miami and Cairo. His most immediate objective is to exhibit in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, invited by BADA in the Buenos Aires art week. In addition to participating in the last 5 art auctions organized by the Mexico Vivo Foundation at the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City, as well as in the art weeks of CDMX and Madrid, Spain. She is a member of the board of the AcordArte Gallery of the Alzheimer Institute of León; she is part of the group of Guanajuato artists Pro-Arte Guanajuato and has received several awards, including the Suburbia corporate for the best concept in a fashion collection along with the designer Alejandra Lavalle. She has also participated in designs for the brand ¡Ay Güey!, Pineda Covalín and for Lousi Vuitton's Mexico to Paris card shop. Creative by definition and always attentive to the new artistic proposals of his environment, Andrés develops the aesthetic sense of his works through the combination of classic, folkloric and novel elements; avant-garde and ancestral, to achieve fresh ideas that undoubtedly please the viewer for its colorfulness and simplicity. As he himself puts it: "It is about creating art and objects that delight the senses; that more than make us think, make us smile".Andres Fernandez began his development in art at the age of 7, studying art disciplines and fusing them to create a very particular and unique style. Andres considers that more than a rigorous technique, his work is closer to the visual development of three influences and passions. The first, the cultural legacy of his grandfather Don Joaquin Cervantes Bassoco who during the 40's and 50's laid the foundations of modern comics in Mexico. Another influence is the world of fairies, elves and stories that take place in enchanted places. Finally, Andres has been involved in the world of design and fashion, giving his work a "Mexican fashionista" style, rich in baroque and neoclassical clothing.
