Description
Blanca Prendes - Silence - Week 6

Biography of the Artist: (Gijón, Asturias) Graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Salamanca. She studied in Kassel and at the HFG Offenbach, Frankfurt, while developing part of her creative activity, which continued in Badajoz and later in Asturias where she has taken up residence. She has been coordinator of the Association La voz de mi madre, in Badajoz; and in Asturias of the Jornadas de Diseño Gráfico Motiva. I have also participated in several group exhibitions and public art projects. For several years she has been a teacher at the School of Art in Oviedo. She is currently a professor of Design at Esapa, School of Art of the Principality of Asturias. In 2017 she completed the Master in Integrated Advertising, from the International University of La Rioja. Until February 2018 she has belonged to the Offmothers collective together with Susana Carro, Roxana Popelka, Eugenia Tejón, Gema Ramos, Natalia Pastor and Elena de la Puente, where they worked on art and maternity issues. She currently belongs to the Association of Women Artists, Blanco, Negro y Magenta BNM based in Madrid and the Association of Women in the Visual Arts MAV. She is also part of Espacio Local, located in Gijón and the Cultural Association Laboca that manages it. STATEMENT My beginnings were based on an informalist painting that moved between figuration and abstraction. In 2003 the work of the last two years is burned. From that moment on, and out of pure necessity, I underwent a great change. I no longer focus on a single technique, and above all I put aside a very visceral and spontaneous way of working, I give more importance to the design of the pieces and the conceptual development of the projects. Incendios portrays this experience. My research is based on visual experiences that go beyond the traditional vision of the "picture-image", taking into account the amount of them that surround us daily and the economy of perception in today's society. I consider myself antidisciplinary, as this categorization does not correspond to my work. Over time I have reconciled myself again with purely pictorial languages, although I continue to explore new media and techniques. Through my projects, I explore the complexity of being a woman and a mother in a world that often underestimates and subordinates our experiences. My artistic approach is based on the exploration and representation of the complex realities of the female experience in our society.

Silence - Week 2-8 This series of photographs arise from the lights that pass through the blinds. Here the shutter works as a time machine, forcing the absence of light and creating a shadowy and collected space where the idea of nest is shown and above all the reflection of the absence of time and space. It is part of the 58 days project, which is inspired by the act of breastfeeding and arises from the need to capture and express arises from the need to capture and express this experience.
