Irene Sánchez Moreno - Red hut in the snow
Technique: Oil on canvas
Artist Biography: The landscapes of Irene Sanchez Moreno (Granada, Spain, 1983) -visually vibrant and blinding- are contemplated as a forbidden and inaccessible land. Autonomous and protagonist landscapes, but at the same time marked -for better or worse- by the footprint of human beings. Horizons that provoke a bucolic but threatening sensation, that double Arcadia referred to by Erwin Panofsky. Nevertheless, a desire for reconciliation also prevails, an attempt at affirmation in the face of an abysmal and unattainable infinity: a mountain, a dry trunk, or a partially covered sky, must be capable of plastically reflecting -subjective- states of consciousness. It is an experience of the limit that postulates a vast spiritual itinerary beyond objective representation. Also fascinating is the versatility, the inconsequence through which these landscapes pass from the most vacuous picturesque curiosities to the pure emotion of the sublime - John Ruskin used to refer to the Alps as "cathedrals of the earth".The narrative nature of his work confronts us as viewers with open endings, where we contemplate ourselves from a "high" and intentionally revealing point.
