The first long stocking was created for a solo exhibition Corcordia Hengelo (NL) in 2011: "Hendrika", a pair of knitted clogs joined by knitted stockings. stockings. This provoked a lot of sensations in the visitors of the exhibition, which made me fantasize about a whole series of these "long stockings", each with its own character and story. own character and history. My thoughts turned to a variant "kinky" variant with high heels and fishnet stockings, a Ko-de-ranger variant with huge wellington boots. Or did my imagination go too far? At that time I was asked for an exhibition at the RABO-theater in Hengelo (The Netherlands). (What could be better than these characters in a theater? So I started I started weaving, for almost a year and a half. One character after the other came up: Marie- Antoinette, Seyx Sadie, Pink little Lucy, Three Legged Sally, and many, many others. others. They all had some humor in them, those absurdly long, stretched legs but at the same time terribly tragic. terribly tragic at the same time. And that combination made them very interesting to me. So interesting that I wanted the stories that were my fantasy to be visible to others. That's why I asked my colleague/photographer Jan Beerling my colleague/photographer Jan Beerling to initiate a project together to photograph these photograph these long stockings worn by flesh and blood people. A co-production was initiated! a co-production! Models were sought, a make-up artist was brought in, sketches were made. sketches were made. And there were photo shoots, lots of photo shoots. We created an unconventional unconventional photographic series; an indeterminate world of characters, sometimes quirky, sometimes sometimes quirky, sometimes very quiet and subdued, each telling their own story, but also leaving space for story but also leave room for the viewer's experience.
