Artist Biography: Miguel Trillo was born in Jimena de la Frontera (Cádiz) in 1953. He has a degree in Image and Hispanic Linguistics from the Complutense University of Madrid. Since the 70's he has portrayed young people in a musical environment (rock concerts, discotheque parties). In the 80's in Madrid he turned the non-famous characters of the Movida into his main objective (Pop Purrí exhibition at the Ovidio gallery -1982- and at the Amadís hall -1983- and anonymous edition of six issues of the fanzine Rockocó -1980 to 1984-). Trillo ended the decade reflecting a generational change in two works published in the creative magazine Sur Exprés: Los nuevos pijos (1988) and Madrid hip hop (1988). At the beginning of the 90's he made a portrait of the Spanish youth in small provincial capitals for the Sunday edition of the newspaper El País. This work is exhibited at the Moriarty Gallery (1992), in Madrid, under the title Souvenirs, publishing as a catalog strips of tourist postcards. In 1993 he transformed the gallery El Manantial, in Barcelona, into a souvenir store with his photos reproduced in tourist objects. Since 1994 he has lived in Barcelona, where he has developed the series Geografía Moderna, a journey through linguistic or territorial borders of the Iberian Peninsula. With the portraits of these young people he has published postage stamps (El Europeo magazine -1997-, H2o gallery, Barcelona -1999 and 2004-). His latest finished series is entitled Habaneras (exhibited at the Círculo de BBAA in Madrid as part of PhotoEspaña 05). In 2009 an important retrospective was organized at the Andalusian Center of Contemporary Art (CAAC) in Seville and at the Canal de Isabel II Gallery in Madrid, curated by José Lebrero, current director of the Picasso Museum in Malaga. This exhibition received the Villa de Madrid Award for the best photographic exhibition of the year. The Reina Sofia Museum since 2011 has included in the permanent exhibition From Revolt to Postmodernity (1962-1982) his fanzines and photos from the early 1980s, which are part of the MNCARS collection. In 2014 he was present in the exhibition La herencia inmaterial, within the collection of the MACBA in Barcelona.
