Description
JESSICA STOCKHOLDER - Corona Virus Homework #18: Comic Series [JS 807].

Technique: Ballpoint pen, marker, crayon, pencil, paper

Artist Biography: Jessica Stockholder (Seattle, USA, 1959) is one of the most influential sculptors of her generation. Her work spans about three decades and is characterized by a commitment to color and materials. The way objects are interpreted has become a hallmark of Stockholder's creation, as she engages both the spheres of conceptualization and construction, through associations between the identifiable and the abstract. Stockholder's interest centers on the assemblage of objects of different nature and provenance. Her work is an interrogation of the heterogeneous through an additive process of superimposition of materials, in which she brings together objects from the real world and objects created by her without causing chaos, due to her control of space and of what it contains, with which she manages to create an order among what at first sight seems chaotic and unconnected.

The Coronavirus Homeworks were made at the artist's home during the Coronavirus quarantine, when she was unable to access her studio, located on the campus of the University of Chicago. The 29 works that make up the series are produced from different types of paper, fabrics, paint, markers, colored pencils, glue and a sewing machine. From his creation emanated the reflection on how we generate meaning and beauty depending on the way we live and work within the limits of our circumstances. Thus, she approached the challenge presented by her precarious circumstances with interest and pleasure, and from the tranquility of her home she crafted these pieces while seeing and feeling the weight of tragedy unfolding around her.
