For her first exhibition at Wild Gallery, Rebecca Glover presents a collection of new works inspired by pregnancy and early motherhood.
When the placenta first forms, it invades the blood supply of the uterus in a manner similar to how some cancer cells evade the immune system. Something akin to a "takeover". From that moment on, the mother's body ceases to be hers and becomes a curious new environment of crisscrossing boundaries. Here the body can be experienced both as an individual and as a complete ecosystem.
Through sculptures, sound, video and performance, the exhibition explores this negotiation of boundaries between individuals, delving into fungal networks, rooted ears, polyphony and the interconnected and linked nature of societies and species.
What does it mean to listen across a shared body? What does it mean to have agency within an ecosystem?
