ROBERTO GONZÁLEZ FERNÁNDEZ - Consummations
Artist Biography:
The invention of photography barely 200 years ago brought about profound changes in the way works of art were produced. Since then, the relationship between art and painting has been a long and rocky love-hate story that continues to this day. The most controversial and reviled categories have been pictorialism and hyperrealism, because of their 'unnatural' nature. A paradigmatic example is in the work of Roberto González Fernández; all his work has always gone beyond, so that we can even speak of 'hyperrealist pictorialism', or 'pictorialist hyperrealism', constantly breaking down the barriers between one and the other, constantly reinventing and reinventing himself. Both disciplines are so intimately interrelated in his work that it becomes impossible to define the technique of each. The architectural aspect, either as a stage or as a constructed place, is a constant presence in RGF's work. Reflections on the monumental follow one after the other. The monuments that interest RGF are precisely those that derive from Babel, those that do not deserve it, or that are dedicated to the obsolete, such as the one offered to unbridled consumption, or the evils of contemporary society, in 'Consumaciones' (2007).
