Warawar Wawa
According to Mathias Heibelg, River Claure's intention, in his series "Warawar Wawa" (Son of the stars), to reconstruct Bolivian identity precisely from the photographic image, is not gratuitous. The novelty of the project is the starting point. River Claure appropriates one of the fundamental texts of the Western canon - "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupery - and recodes it. In this way, the artist produces new codes and icons that respond to the concept of Chi'xi, which in the Aymara language means "grey". River places us between the hegemonic conception and the indigenist conception: he vindicates the roots of the Aimara civilisation but also points out, through carefully chosen aesthetic gestures, the presence of Bolivia within a global economy.
