Into a loop

Heir to the Spanish and German gestural and informalist tradition of the second half of the 20th century, Rafa Forteza (Palma de Mallorca, 1955) is considered one of the most significant creators of contemporary Spanish plastic art, with an extensive body of work that establishes a dialogue between abstraction and figuration, but also an intense debate between reality and concept. Formally, much of his work could also be related to Art Povera, with its stylised sculptural creations, or to Art Brut and abstract expressionism, but on the whole, his work reflects this pure creativity, uncontaminated by the imitation of established models, Intentionally conceived with a certain primitivist air, in which he seeks a language based on essential forms, such as the cross or the human face, taken to a maximum schematism by means of short brushstrokes, circles, false collages, in his well-known sculptures of folds and in the very new tech sculptures.
